## Why modules beat a directory

A supplier directory is a phone book. It answers “who exists?” once, then goes stale.

**Boat Day Modules** are product versions for every ecosystem player — marina, dealer, insurer, lender, surveyor, yard, school, club, OEM, developer — each with embeds, APIs, webhooks, and a write-back contract into the HIN-keyed Vessel Passport.

Modules win because:

1. **Shared object** — the passport / readiness / Go Today truth travels with the boat, not the vendor’s CRM.
2. **Write-back** — partners don’t just *read* status; they append events, jobs, readiness snapshots, and outcomes that make the next partner smarter.
3. **Compounding loops** — every successful cast-off creates data that lowers burden for the next trip, the next renewal, the next haul-out.
4. **Aligned incentive** — partners win when owners go more. Quality Boat Days is the shared KPI, not lead spam volume.

A directory lists. A module **participates in the flywheel**.

## Flywheels (owner ↔ marina ↔ yard ↔ insurer ↔ dealer)

```
Owner casts off more (Quality Boat Days ↑)
        │
        ▼
Marina sees readiness / Go Today → smoother docks, happier slip holders
        │
        ▼
Yard clears jobs faster → burden down → Go Today recovers
        │
        ▼
Insurer sees hygiene signals (advisory) → renewals less painful → owner stays covered
        │
        ▼
Dealer seeds next passport at handover → first-90 days stick
        │
        └──► more owners who actually use the boat → demand for schools, clubs, OEMs, lenders
```

Secondary loops:

- **Surveyor ↔ lender** — report on passport clears condition precedent → funded boat → earlier first day.
- **School ↔ club** — confidence + crew → more trips worth rating highly.
- **OEM ↔ yard** — model graph + intervals → fewer mystery failures.
- **Developer ↔ all** — stable APIs/webhooks amplify every write-back.

## Data each module writes back

| Signal | Examples | Who writes |
|--------|----------|------------|
| **Passport events** | purchase, handover, survey, dockage, service, winterize, training | dealer, surveyor, marina, yard, school, lender |
| **Jobs** | book-a-service, SLA status, completion | yard, surveyor, school |
| **Readiness** | pack snapshots, completeness score, doc flags | marina, insurer, lender |
| **Outcomes** | feedback scores, CP cleared, first-cast-off, worth-it trips | yard, lender, dealer, club, owner |

Nothing here is underwriting, claims adjudication, or legal advice. Insurer module = **risk hygiene signals only**.

## Tier model: Starter / Pro / Network

| Tier | Intent | Typical unlocks |
|------|--------|-----------------|
| **Starter** | Prove value on a small roster | Readiness embed, HIN lookup, 1 webhook |
| **Pro** | Run the workflow daily | Go Today board, compliance calendar, API keys, outcome write-back |
| **Network** | Compound across partners | Cross-partner flywheel, shared events, network analytics, higher webhook limits |

Prices in `content/ecosystem/modules.json` are **demo labels only**.

## Product surfaces

| Surface | Role |
|---------|------|
| `/ecosystem` | Editorial hub — The Boat Day Network |
| `/ecosystem/[moduleId]` | Full module page |
| `/partners/portal` | Demo partner console |
| `/for-partners` | Points at `/ecosystem` as system of record |
| `/embed/readiness/{hin}` · `/embed/go-today/{hin}` | Chrome-light partner iframes |

APIs: `GET /api/v1/ecosystem/modules`, `GET .../modules/{id}`, `POST .../webhooks/test`, `GET .../network`.

## Compass

Every module exists to create more days that feel like why they bought the boat.
**Partners win when owners go more.**
