Boat Storage Near Kittery & Portsmouth: Options and Prices
Indoor, outdoor, rack and in-water storage around the Piscataqua, with posted 2026 prices where yards publish them, the nearby yards in our directory, and the questions worth asking before you sign.
A good storage spot is one you stop thinking about. The boat comes out, goes somewhere safe and dry, and comes back in the spring ready for the first warm Saturday. Around the Piscataqua you have more choices than most people realize: indoor, outdoor, rack, in-water, and on your own trailer. This page walks through each one, shows what the yards that publish prices actually charge for 2026, and points you to the nearby yards so you can stop searching and get back to planning boat days. Every boat deserves a good winter berth.
Prices were read from each yard's own website on October 30, 2026 (sources at the bottom). Many Seacoast yards don't post prices and quote by phone. We say so where that's the case rather than guess.
Your storage options
Outdoor on jack stands (shrink-wrapped)
The most common Seacoast setup. The yard hauls the boat, washes the bottom, blocks it on stands, and launches it in spring.
- Great Bay Marine (Newington, NH): $57/ft up to 34', $62/ft for 35' and up, including haul, bottom wash and spring launch.
- York Harbor Marine (York, ME): $52/ft under 30', $64/ft 30'+ for the "Storage Plus" package (haul, wash, blocking, stands, storage, launch). Storage only is $34/$38 per foot.
- Hampton River Marina (Hampton, NH): $85/ft for storage on blocks and stands, plus a 7.5% environmental surcharge.
- Shrink wrap is usually extra. York Harbor Marine posts $28–$40/ft by length.
Outdoor on your own trailer
The cheapest option if you trailer.
- Great Bay Marine: $46/ft if you haul it yourself, or $55/ft with their haul.
- Hampton River Marina (Nov 1–Apr 15): $1,500 (18–20'), $1,800 (21–28'), $2,000 (29'+), plus 7.5%.
Indoor, cold or heated
Out of the snow and wind, usually with no shrink wrap needed. Indoor space fills first.
- Great Bay Marine: cold inside $115/ft and heated inside $192/ft up to 32'. For 33–48' it's $12/sq ft cold and $18/sq ft heated. Packages include haul, wash, launch and stands. Cold inside on your own trailer is $95/ft if you haul it yourself.
- Safe Harbor Kittery Point: its location page lists indoor, indoor heated, outdoor and wet winter storage for boats up to 55'. Prices aren't published, so call.
- Island Marine Service (Kittery): inside, enclosed and outside storage from Nov 1 to Apr 30, priced per square foot (length × width). Prices aren't published, so call.
Rack / valet (dry stack)
Best for smaller powerboats when you want summer convenience and winter storage in one contract.
- Hampton River Marina: the year-round rack is $4,407 and includes winter storage on the rack. The summer rack (May 15–Sept 30) is $3,171.
- York Harbor Marine offers seasonal valet rack service. Rates aren't published.
In the water all winter
Some boats, mostly larger ones whose owners don't want to haul, winter in a slip.
- Badgers Island Marina (Kittery): posts a "dormant boats only, no facilities" rate of $75/ft LOA, plus a one-time $600 electricity fee for the winter storage season. Ask exactly what's included, such as bubblers and checks.
- Great Cove Boat Club (Eliot): offers off-season storage "both in and out of the water". Call for rates.
- Hampton River Marina: advertises winter wet slips. Call for rates.
At home
If you have the room and the town allows it, a trailer boat in the driveway costs nothing but a good cover and a battery maintainer. Winterize it the same way. Freeze damage doesn't care where the boat sits.

What to ask a yard before you sign
- What's in the package? Haul, pressure wash, blocking and stands, and spring launch, or storage only?
- How do they measure? Length overall (including swim platform and pulpit), or length × beam per square foot?
- What are the dates? When does the storage season start and end, and what do they charge if you launch late?
- What's extra? Shrink wrap, spring cover removal, winterizing, bottom paint, battery storage, environmental surcharges, card fees.
- Can you work on your own boat? Some yards allow DIY, some don't, and some limit outside contractors.
- What about access? Can you visit on weekends, or only during yard hours? (Indoor buildings are often hours-only.)
- What insurance do they require? Most require you to keep hull and liability coverage while stored.
- What's the deposit and cancellation policy? Several posted deposits are non-refundable.
- When is the spring launch? Book it now and you're on the water sooner.
