If it freezes where you keep her, winterizing isn't optional. One cracked block will teach you that the expensive way. Even in mild climates, a lay-up routine for the idle months pays for itself.

Winterize (high level)

1. Follow OEM engine fogging/antifreeze procedures for your propulsion type
2. Drain or antifreeze potable water and head systems with non-toxic marine antifreeze where appropriate
3. Bilge clean/dry; remove water that can freeze
4. Batteries charged/maintained or removed
5. Fuel policy per OEM (stabilize; tank management debates—follow manufacturer)
6. Anodes/outdrive positions per yard practice
7. Shrinkwrap or cover with ventilation; dehumidifier as needed
8. Trailer: block correctly, check tires cover

Spring commission

1. Unwrap/inspect for pests and moisture
2. Reinstall batteries; check charging
3. Replace raw-water impeller if due
4. Oil/fluids as scheduled
5. Launch; check for leaks at thruhulls
6. Sea strainer clean; cooling flow verify
7. Electronics boot; lights; bilge pumps
8. Safety gear refresh; registration decal current
9. Short sea trial before guests
